CHARACTER PROGRAM

Children today are surrounded by messages that encourage them to be self-centered, materialistic, and unconcerned about others. Now more then ever adults need to help guide and encourage children to focus on positive values by providing them with experiences that will reinforce the character traits we all admire.  With this program we will help our students become better individuals and will improve our school environment.

RESPECT – is a critical element in all healthy relationships.  When students respect others, they treat people with consideration and courtesy and do not violate then physically or verbally.  Respect for others should be woven into the fabric of each student’s life and characterize all of their relationships.  It is a fundamental character quality that prepares students to live productive lives as they relate to and work with others.

Grades themes:
  First grade
    1. Read story Rusty the Respectful Raccoon
    2. Discuss how he is respectful?
    3. Compare Rusty to first graders etc.

  Second grade
    1. Read story The Ugly Duckling
    2. Discuss how the Ugly Duckling was treated.
    3. Discuss how the Ugly Duckling could have been treated with respect.

  Third & Forth grade:
    1. Have students make a list of actions that show respect to others.
    2. Decorate the craft paper.
    3. On Friday post list on cafeteria walls.

  Fifth grade:
    1. Have students make a list of ways they can show respect for other
        both teammates and opponents - while playing sports.
    2. Decorate the craft paper.
    3. On Friday post list on cafeteria walls.

  Sixth grade:
    Every student needs to bring pictures or drawings for Thursday.
    They will make a mural during club period.

 

Responsability

RESPONSIBILITY - An important aspect of schooling is helping students become responsible adults. It is essential for students to learn the importance of being dependable and thorough in their responsibilities at home and in school. In addition, being a positive example to others is an important part of living responsibly. Students need to understand that responsible behavior is the cornerstone of successful living.
